SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – San Francisco and Pacific Gas & Electric Co. officials plan to install equipment to help prevent a repeat of Monday’s blackouts at Candlestick Park during a nationally televised game between the 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Mayor Ed Lee says the city will install additional backup power to the computer that partially controls the stadium’s power system.

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) – A San Leandro Walmart parking lot where a man was shot on Black Friday is the site of another shooting. KGO-TV reports that a gunman shot a man in the leg late last night during an altercation. The shooting victim had been shopping at Walmart with his wife. The TV station reports that the victim got into his car and drove away, but the suspect followed in another car and continued shooting. The shooting victim is expected to recover. A man was shot in the same lot on Nov. 25 during a robbery and is recovering at home.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California health officials have reported the first flu-related death of the influenza season. Authorities yesterday announced the death of a Kern County man who was in his late 30s. No other details were provided. Overall flu activity in the state remains low and officials say the season generally peaks between January and March.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) – Four more felony child sex charges have been filed against an ex-deputy charged with having sex with a teenager in the San Bernardino County sheriff’s youth training program. A judge last week ordered 31-year-old Nathan Gastineau to stand trial on six felony counts. The San Bernardino County Sun says four more sex counts were added yesterday based on Dec. 15 preliminary hearing testimony showing the girl had sex with Gastineau about 20 times – six times before her 16th birthday.
